A matéria-prima dos fertilizantes da Verde, é rica em glauconita. Esse mineral possui uma alta capacidade de realizar trocas iônicas e, por isso, retém amônio, reduzindo as perdas de nitrogênio.
• Substituições de Si⁴⁺ por Al³⁺ nas camadas tetraédricas.
• Substituições Al³⁺ por Fe³⁺, Fe²⁺ e Mg²⁺ nos sítios octaédricos.
• Diminuição de cargas positivas e aumento de cargas negativas (mineral assume as características de um ânion).
• Balanceamento de cargas pela adsorção de cátions (NH⁴⁺ ).
• Liberação gradual para o solo, evitando perdas por volatilização e lixiviação.

A matéria-prima dos fertilizantes da Verde, é rica em glauconita. Esse mineral possui uma alta capacidade de realizar trocas iônicas e, por isso, retém amônio, reduzindo as perdas de nitrogênio.
• Substituições de Si⁴⁺ por Al³⁺ nas camadas tetraédricas.
• Substituições Al³⁺ por Fe³⁺, Fe²⁺ e Mg²⁺ nos sítios octaédricos.
• Diminuição de cargas positivas e aumento de cargas negativas (mineral assume as características de um ânion).

a) Siltito Glauconítico com partículas de glauconita com tamanho médio de 8 microns.
b) Após a ativação mecânica foi observado que as partículas ficaram mais finas (4 microns), dispersas em coágulos, e se tornaram mais esféricas, aumentando a área superficial.

O potássio fica localizado entre as camadas na estrutura da glauconita. Trocas iônicas permitem a liberação progressiva de potássio para as plantas.
